Happy Mother’s Day to all those celebrating! People become royal watchers for many reasons. As the public, we see royals either from birth, moving throughout their whole lives. Or from a very pivotal point, marriage. And becoming a Mother is a big part of that. For Kate and Diana, it’s the monumental marker of their lives. Royal births, and royal weddings, really are our Super Bowls. There’s very few, if any, other positions or roles in life that require a lifelong, public presence. Because of this, genuine affection and love develops for certain central members of the Royal Family. Turning them into these cultural touchstones, shared by all throughout the world. And when one becomes a Mother or expands her family, the world celebrates with her.
It's always fun on holidays like this to peek inside Pippa Middleton’s book, Celebrate, and imagine how Kate and her family celebrate the holidays. There’s one tradition in the Middleton family Pippa loves and, I’m betting, William and the kids do this for Kate on Mother’s Day in the UK, called Mothering Sunday.
But first I wanted to talk a bit about Charlotte’s name and bring a conversation from DMs here. We had mentioned on Charlotte’s birthday recently, in our IG stories, that she was named after Pippa, not Charles. Pippa’s full name is Philippa Charlotte. At her birth, most UK media reported that she was named after Charles and Queen Elizabeth. I think this was because Charles wanted to blunt the attention from her being clearly named after Diana. In my opinion, Charlotte was named after Pippa, Kate, and Diana. Elizabeth is Kate’s middle name and also Carole Middleton’s. This side of the story made few headlines at Charlotte’s birth. I can imagine the Middleton family had quite a chuckle about those headlines.

I love a good breakfast in bed. It can be romantic or sweet and it’s a tradition I grew up with on most birthdays. Once, I brought this topic up on Twitter and there was a mini Twitter storm!! And, not surprisingly, Twitter being Twitter, most of it was negative. I was shocked. A lot had never had breakfast in bed or given anyone breakfast in bed. With a good portion proclaiming it too messy, not worth the effort, or even, they weren’t doing that for anyone because no one would do it for them! I think I found all the curmudgeons that day on Twitter.
So, let me first preface all of this with, you really must have a good mindset for this and be excited. Realizing that crumbs can be cleaned and sheets can be changed, life is messy, enjoy the fun. Messes clean up. (And BTW, it really isn’t that messy, even with children.) Relax. Good things take effort.
