Happy Sunday!! My goodness, what a royal watching week! Yesterday, I was picturing how Kate must be reacting to the news that Meghan and Harry are begging to return to royal duties. Just weeks ago, they were plotting and scheming to get a version of Endgame published that they surely thought would destroy Kate. Now, they are knocking at the palace doors. Hello, it’s the Sussexes!! Anyone home?!?
In a shocking announcement, Harry and Meghan want back into the royal fold and sources from them have spoken with Kate Mansey, the assistant editor of The Times. “The Duke of Sussex is willing to return to a temporary royal role in support of his father during his illness,” Sussex sources revealed to The Times. The article further states that “Harry wants to make an offer to make a limited return to royal duties” and this offer would include both Meghan and Harry. Adding, “Harry would not receive public funds.”
All of this comes the same week that Meghan and Harry launched their new site, Sussex.com, branding the whole family, including Lili and Archie, as the royal Sussex clan. Complete with only Meghan’s coat of arms on the site. Also this week, Meghan and Harry hosted press in Whistler and Vancouver, Canada to mark the one year countdown to Invictus 2025. But, the bombshell certainly was the Sussexes publicly asking to return to royal duties.
The Times article, at turns, gave a vague sense of possibly having some backing from the palace, purposefully cloudy. (I have also noticed that media outlets will use the term “royal source”, when indeed, it’s a Sussex source.) But, yesterday, William laid that all to rest. The Mirror reported, “The Prince of Wales is so angered by his brother’s continued attacks on the monarchy that he will block any of his bids to return to The Firm.” With the paper quoting sources that William feels Meghan and Harry “cannot be trusted”. Adding that Harry had “zero chance” of returning.
The Telegraph’s Hannah Furness on Saturday also reported that a source had confirmed to her, Harry would comeback. But the palace insisted to The Telegraph, there was “no way back” for the Sussexes. Adding about the terms of the Sandringham Summit, “Those terms were quite clear, and the King’s illness hasn’t altered that.” Furness also reported that Harry and Charles never discussed the possibility of Harry returning during their short, 30 minute meeting.
Everyone knows how much Harry and Meghan cling to their royal connection. However, it’s a huge jump to now publicly ask to return.
