Happy Sunday!! I hope you are enjoying this last weekend in April. I thought everyone needed some fun today. A bit of something that’s been missing in our royal life this year – fashion. I think we have all been pondering and considering when we might see Kate back on a regular basis, even if not full time. I think fall is a good place to look ahead at, without pressure. And, it’s like the Fashion Gods have been thinking this also, because fall fashion this year seems to be designed just for Kate and reflects how many royal fans are feeling.
Just to clarify, I’m sure we will see Kate before fall, maybe popping in here or there. But fall, might be a realistic time when she’s seen more regularly. Above all, we just want her well and not stressed about returning to the public eye.
A lot of fall trends this year mirror what royal watchers are experiencing too. “Turbulent times” as some are calling it, is reflected in the trends. After her show, Miuccia Prada explained the theme of her collection like this, “an instinctive need for love and goodness…. especially in a time like this.” Donatella Versace, at a preview of her fall collection, added a similar sentiment. “Living in the world we (do) today, we need the courage to move ahead, and fashion is a vehicle of positivity and togetherness,” she explained. Perhaps, Bottega Veneta’s Matthieu Blazy expressed it best, stating, “In a world on fire, there is something very human in the simple act of dressing… We all watch the same news. It is hard to be celebratory at this point. Still, the idea of rebirth is beautiful, too.”
Obviously, these comments are about the world at large, but they also fit royal watching perfectly, the last few months. Designer Henry Zankov, founder of ZANKOV Studio, a knitwear brand based in NYC, called his fall collection, Hold Me Closer. Explaining that, “I wanted the sensation of being hugged…” Safety, security, closeness, is the fall fashion theme.
So, how does this present itself physically in what we will see in fall trends? Vogue explains the focus this fall will be on “materials and tactility”, meaning an emphasis on sensation and touch, feeling. “Taken altogether the combination of heritage tweeds and herringbones with plaids… and argyle knits, conjures an English country weekend.” Calling them “touch-me” clothing pieces, Vogue predicts we will see plenty of shearling, faux furs, feathers, leathers, and knits.
Here are the fall fashion trends we hope to see Kate embracing in 2024, our one wild card pick. And the trend that Kate likes, but we don’t, which she may use again in fall 2024.
